“Cash is King”, so the wise old hands say. But is that true? Certainly for business owners cashflow is vital. Profit is of course essential for long term survival – but in the short term, it doesn’t matter how much profit you are forecasting for next year if you don’t have enough cash to take you from here to there. Employees will start screaming if wages are a day late – and if you’re lucky, suppliers, IRD and the landlord might cut you some slack for a month or two after that …
Here’s a couple of home truths we see all the time when we’re working with business owners to anticipate their cash needs:
Business owners almost always overestimate future income and underestimate future costs.
Often times, business owners do not see a cash crunch coming.
